Guava Margarita (Guavarita) Recipe

A tropical take on the classic margarita using sweet and tart guava paired with lime and tequila. Great for sunny afternoons or holiday parties!

Ingredients

(Serves 1)

  • 2 oz (60ml) silver tequila
  • 1 oz (30ml) triple sec or Cointreau
  • 1.5 oz (45ml) freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 2 oz (60ml) guava nectar (Jumex or Goya, for example)
  • 0.5 oz (15ml) agave syrup (optional, use to taste)
  • Ice (for shaking and serving)

Garnish:

  • Tajín or chili-lime salt (for rimming)
  • Slice of lime or fresh guava slice
  • Mint sprig (optional)

Instructions

Prep the Glass:

  • Rim a margarita or rocks glass with lime juice and dip it into Tajín or chili-lime salt. Fill with ice.

Shake:

  • The ingredients: Tequila, triple sec, lime juice, guava nectar and agave syrup (if using), clink. Fill with ice and shake hard for 15–20 seconds.

Strain & Serve:

  • Strain into prepared glass over fresh ice. A garnish of a lime wheel or guava slice.

Tips & Variations

  • Fresh Guava Puree: Blend 1 ripe guava (peeled/seeded) and 2 tbsp water. Strain, and use 2 oz in lieu of nectar.
  • Extra Kick: Muddle 2 slices of jalapeño in the shaker before adding other ingredients.
  • Frozen Version: Purée all ingredients with ½ cup crushed ice for a slushy consistency.
  • Mocktail: Substitute 2 oz coconut water for tequila and 1 oz orange juice for triple sec.

Why It Works

  • Balance: The natural sweetness of guava counteracts the acidity of lime, while Tajín contributes a savory edge.
  • Availability: Guava nectar is common, but fresh puree is more concentrated in flavor.
  • Versatile: Tweek sweetness with agave or spice with chili for a customized sip.
  • Pair With: Tacos, ceviche or grilled pineapple skewers.

Raise a glass to the tropics with this colorful Guavarita! 🍹✨
